Keeping it Reel

Data Visualization, Coding, Design

Keeping it Reel is a data visualization web app that allows users analyze the dialogues of 617 movies over 9 decades. The purpose of our visualization is to show themes and inter/intra sex ratio in these conversations. We wanted to bring to light how the ratio of female-female conversations in movies has not really changed over the years. As well as allow user explore the language themes, gender balance and sentiment of their favorite movies. Our source of data was the Cornell Movie Dialogs Corpus, released along with the paper Chameleons in Imagined Conversations: A new Approach to Understanding Coordination of Linguistic Style in Dialogs by Cristian Danescu-Niculescu-Mizil and Lillian Lee.
